Four fully-funded training places available (sponsored by Aero Engine Controls)

University of Leicester

We have previously recruited 16 MSc students for positions sponsored by Aero Engine Controls (a joint venture between Rolls Royce and Goodrich).

The company now wishes to add further people to this team.

These are fully-funded industry-based studentships linked to the University of Leicester’s MSc programme in Reliable Embedded Systems.

These operate as follows:

  • The studentships pay all University fees for the full (2-year) programme (subject to satisfactory progress)
  • The studentships also provide a maintenance award of £12,000 / year for 2 years (subject to satisfactory progress). Our understanding is that this award is tax free.
  • In addition to the basic maintenance award, sponsored students are eligible to achieve additional “Achievement Payments” of £1000 for every module in which they are awarded a “Distinction” mark (>= 70%).
  • During the period of the studentship, you will undertake a work placement in the sponsoring company, during which you will complete your MSc project.
  • You will have the opportunity to apply for a UK job with the sponsoring company at the end of the MSc programme.

General information about these MSc studentships

Dr Anjali Das (Technical Training Manager, TTE Systems Ltd) comments:

We created these MSc studentships after we were approached by two sponsoring companies who were interested in the programme and interested in expanding their development teams. We think the resulting studentships offer excellent opportunities for both students and sponsoring companies, particularly in the present economic climate.

It should be noted that this is not a ‘typical’ MSc programme, and that many of the students are mature, often with many years of experience. These students - and the sponsoring companies - see the programme as a great way of bringing their skills up to date.

Dr Das adds:

In many cases, we expect that successful students will be offered jobs with the sponsoring companies at the end of the programme, but - of course - such appointments cannot be guaranteed.”
